Unrealistic expectations

Mrs Grendel has plans.

Her scrap room is not enough and she wants to expand. She sent me a link this morning to this scrapper’s photos, which are kinda cool I guess – great work area, heaps of storage, big wrap around desk, lots of room to hang stuff, all the paper racks you’d ever need. . .

A scrapper’s paradise really. Of course to create it her partner actually bought and installed an entire shed of substantial size on their property.

Mrs Grendel wants the same thing, and here is where we face some difficulties – first of all because I have a different vision for the room, and second because in order to deliver what she wants we need to either:

a) increase the size of our house by 20%
b) buy a bigger house
c) move the kids into the backyard
d) Employ some Timelords to create a TARDIS like enclosure where the space inside is larger than the space outside

Of the 4 options, option 'D' is the most practical.

There's a great opportunity to be had here..... Get a flat-packed shed, any size will do, just as long as it fits in the back yard.

Get the Scrapper to take a photo of it when it arrives from the hardware store - suggest that she makes a start on a '12x12 time-line layout journal'

NB: There's probably a random collection of letters that more accurately describes this project, but they're only known to scrappers!

Hastliy put flat-pack shed together, then suggest that the Scrapper takes another photo just to make sure all stages of development are captured. Insist on seeing completed layout before starting on next phase!!!!

Paint one side of shed with a coloured wood stain. Inform the Scapper that there is yet another photo opportunity in the making, and they you've carefully chosen the colour to allow them to explore the full colour-potential of their stash.

NB: If they don't have an appropriate colours in the stash - offer to paint a few sheets with the wood stain, afterall, it's acid free, lignin free, colour-fast, waterproof and does exactly what it says on the tin!

Again, wait for proof that layout is complete before choosing a second colour to paint a second side of the shed. Repeat this paint-photo-layout-proof process for the remaining external sides. Then make a start in the internal sides. Then paint the door a different colour - inside and out!

If the Scrapper has given up on you by now, GREAT! Move your tools into the shed, get a decent padlock, and secure them for future non-scrapping use!

If they're still showing signs of delusion and believe that the 'shed' will one day be a 'scrapbook design studio' then it's time to move onto the 'embelishments'.

Find a few slugs, snails, spiders, possibly a mouse or two, and begin to embelish the interior of the shed. Cobwebs are good, especially when strung strategically across the doorway. And the power of a birds nest wedged into the roof apex cannot be underestimated!

Photo taking should begin to diminish at this point, allowing you to move your tools into the shed, get a decent padlock, and secure them for future non-scrapping use!

Great plan - I wonder if they make them 1 meter wide. . .

Hmmmm, not so sure that I like anonymous's train of thought, evil man :(
But thank you mr grendel for sharing this amazing work space with us, and I look forward to seeing MRs Grendel's minus the embellishemnts suggested by anonoymous - "a few slugs, snails, spiders, possibly a mouse or two".

Mr Grendel,I'm not seeing the problem with having to a) increase the size of our house by 20%
b) buy a bigger house
c) move the kids into the backyard
d) Employ some Timelords to create a TARDIS like enclosure where the space inside is larger than the space outside. It's SCRAPBOOKING, man! It's all a question of priorities! (Needless to say, I have emailed my DH the link to the scrapping shed of all scrapping sheds -it's my birthday next Tuesday!)

Oh, my goodness! I wish I could have one of those! I say let her have one of her own!!

But, then again, I am a scrapbooker!

OMG Mrs Grendel loves the same room I do! I suggested the same thing to my DH and he gave me the look... you know, the one that says "over my dead body"?!

Have to say Mr Grendel that I love your blog and have put a link on my blog. My DH also loves your blog... when I let him onto the computer to look at it!

Looking forward to reading more posts!
